Bead Mazes (or rollercoasters!) are a toy box staple, and feature everywhere from homes to doctor’s waiting rooms. Having been originally invented by Anatex in 1982 this toy revolutionised the toy industry when it was launched, and as fans of educational toys we completely see why!
It provides the first building blocks for creative, intellectual development as it stimulates basic learning skills such as visual tracking, hand-eye coordination and colour recognition.
They are also great tools to demonstrate directional change and spatial relationship concepts such as over, under, left, right, up and down. The bead maze enables difficult concepts to unfold right before a child’s eyes!.
What’s more the configuration of the wire is designed so that the movement of the beads along the paths aids in the development of finger and wrist dexterity. Such flowing and curving motions are prerequisite to developing basic writing skills.
With toys there’s often so much more going on than meets the eye, and the bead maze is no exception. We think they’re aMazing!
