Giving old trees new life

At MURO we love rubberwood and use it for 85% of our products, and we're working to make it 100% (the holes in MURO have to be precisely machined we use FSC birch-plywood from Siberia for the bases). Rubberwood is a gorgeous material that is a by-product of the latex industry and usually burnt after the trees come to the end of their productive life, but not if we've got anything to do with it.

Beautiful

Rubber wood has a naturally light brown colour with very subtle red tones. The trees have an extensive vascular system to support their trademark sap production, this gives the wood a stunning deep grain pattern and texture.

Eco-friendliest

Traditionally the wood from latex plantations has been burnt, but we prefer to recycling it into toys. Not only does this save other species of trees from the forest but also reduces the carbon emissions in to atmosphere.

Hardwood

The rubberwood we use has usually been grown for 25 - 30 years which means it has a higher density that other faster grown woods. This means our toys are super tactile, more resistant to little teeth marks and stand up to the rigours of a life at play!

We're very proud of the materials we use and the efforts we go to to minimise the impact of MURO on the environment. We have recently changed all of our packaging to paper and are working to incorporate new eco-friendlier materials where ever that's possible!
